In far-off land of slate black sky,

The Countess in her Castle died.

Eleven years since her last time

Within the walls of Raefenheim.

Corvina’s death; a mystery,

Though few would call it tragedy.

In life, her love was e’er reserved

For her beloved black-winged birds.

In every chamber, room, and hall

Of Raefenheim you’ll hear their call.

Rafenheim is a tabletop RPG for 2 or more players in which you explore a mysterious, crumbling castle in a far-away land, inspired by the gothic literature of the 18th and 19th centuries. The rules fit on a single page, making it easy to pick up for a one-shot session.

Play as one of 6 character archetypes, each with their own play style, while one player plays as The Estate itself. Pine, Brood, and Scheme your way through the mysteries of Raefenheim. Try your best not to antagonize the countless crows which inhabit the castle.

The playable archetypes are:

The Romantic

The Byronic

The Elder

The Haunted

The Fallen

The Tyrant

The American

This game is an official recipient of a Baffy Award, as well as a Sandy Pug Award!

I'm also unable to download or claim the game while it is currently 100% off. When clicking "Download or Claim", the pop up seems to be set up as if I would pay $0 to add an extra community copy. There is not the usual "click to see downloads" option. And when trying to click to "pay" the $0, an error message appears: "There was an error generating the download URL, please try again." If you're able to resolve this issue, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I heard this from a few folks, as best I can tell it was the result of some weird internal interaction between the Halloween sale and the way I used the "add community copies" function when I first published the game. Since this was some error on itch's side, there wasn't much I could do on my end. It didn't seem to affect everyone, strangely, as I had several purchases and downloads during the sale.

In any case I'm adding a bunch of community copies now, please feel free to snag one. If you have any further problems there I'd be happy to send you a download key. Thanks for your interest in the game.

Just claimed one now! Thanks a lot!

This is genuinely one of most fun I've ever had GMing a one-shot. It was a true delight playing as the Estate and a seemingly endless number of crows. If you like gothic literature do not sleep on this.

This is the best one-page RPG I've ever played. It's SO GOOD! The writing is very evocative of the genre and even though it's only one page, the game utilizes that one page very well. I highly recommend this game!
